ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Monday resumed case proceedings of Avenfield properties supplementary references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Judge Mohammad Bashir presided over the hearing in presence of former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar.
The hearings heated up as the defence counsel Khawaja Haris and NAB prosecutor exchanged harsh words in an argument during cross-examination of the key witness, and former head of Panama Papers Joint Investigation Team (JIT), Wajid Zia.
The last hearing on April 5 exempted Sharifs from hearing owing to bad weather and with consideration to the health issues of Judge Bashir.
Sharif, addressing the media outside the accountability court, said that he would discuss the matter with his defence to file a petition for requesting live broadcasting of the trial.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had demanded live coverage of the case proceedings ‘so that the truth could be made public’. He said that the 220 million owners of Pakistan, its people should not allow anyone’s monopoly or let injustice prevail.
Former PM along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were charged in Avenfield properties reference case (London) in September last year.
The case proceedings completed its key witness statement recording on March 27. Zia has previously been cross-examined for seven hearings since his statement recording.
