ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday nominated banking expert Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United States (US).
Siddique will replace Aizaz Chaudhry who is going to be retired as ambassador and the government has not offered him an extension. Siddiqui’s appointment will be finalised after the approval of Washington.
Siddiqui is the son of business tycoon Jahangir Siddiqui and has previously served as the chairman of JS bank and JS private equity. He was appointed as the special assistant to Prime minister last year in August.
The newly appointed ambassador has served as a member of the Privatisation Commission, a member of the Private Sector Advisory Board of the Planning Commission, a member of the Sindh Board of Investment, and as a member of the Community Development Board of the Government of Sindh.
Siddiqui did his bachelor degree in economics from Cornell University in New York. He was also honoured by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2014.
