Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Saturday said that the Sharif family was trying to hide its corruption by disrespecting the judiciary.
Addressing a joint press conference along with Ramesh Kumar, a former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker who joined the PTI on Saturday, Imran said the entire nation currently stands with the judiciary.”Everyone has faith in the Supreme Court’s current leadership,” he said.
Imran demanded that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif disclose his sources of income and the means through which he transferred the money abroad. “Wajid Zia is being attacked because he can’t speak [against them],” Imran said, referring to the head of the joint investigation team that probed Panama Papers case.
The PTI chief claimed that the returning officers too were involved in rigging in the 2013 general electionsbesides the political parties. He accused rival Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) of buying votes in the recently held Senate elections. “Asif Zardari is mistaken that he can buy the Punjab chief minister post by spending money like he did during the Senate elections,” he said.
The PTI chiefannounced on the occasion that his party will hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on April 20.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Ramesh Kumarsaid he decided to leave the PML-N because it had failed to address the issues of the minorities. He said that he had already informed the PML-N leadership about his decision.
To a question, Kumar hoped that former interior minister and PML-N disgruntled leader Chaudhry Nisar would also join the PTI very soon.”Chaudhry Nisar is like my elder brother. He kept assuring me that things would change [in PML-N] so I stayed [with the party] this long,” he added.
Kumar was elected to the National Assembly as a PML-N candidate on a seat reserved for minorities in the 2013 general elections.
