ISLAMABAD: Condemning human rights violations in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK), legislators on Monday demanded the United Nations take notice and play an active role in resolving the decades-old dispute as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people. The UN should implement its own resolution in Indian Occupied Kashmir and also salvage the region and entire world and prevent war between two atomic power states, Pakistan and India, observed senators in Senate Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan. Professor Sajid Mir chaired the committee. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and GB Barjees Tahir apprised the committee that League of Nations failed to stop the Second World War and if the UN also could not resolve the Kashmir dispute, it would be conceived as a failed organization.
India totally banned media in IOK and continued atrocities against the innocent Kashmiri who raised their voices internally for independence. As a result, the Indian forces carried out human rights violation, and martyred several people. The minister assured the committee that recommendations of the committee would be presented to the prime minister for amicable solution of the Kashmir dispute.
Earlier, the committee had postponed the entire agenda and regretted human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. The committee passed a resolution which asked the government of Pakistan to take appropriate measures at international forum for addressing the Kashmir dispute. The situation is ripe and the environment conducive for presenting Kashmir issue to the global community. The committee suggested the government do its homework and present Kashmir’s case in the General Assembly of the United Nations. In this regard, a majority of the 200 members of the General Assembly of UN should be contacted and taken into confidence.
Speaking on the occasion Senator Rehman Malik condemned the Indian atrocities against the innocent people of Kashmir. It was a time for the Pakistani government to move against India in the United Nations, he said, so as to expose the evil faces of India and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The senator said the people of Pakistan stood by the oppressed people of Kashmir and could not be silent spectators of this worst kind of carnage. He said the issue of Kashmir was not an internal issue for India but a matter of human rights. He also suggested that a joint session of Parliament be called on the issue of Kashmir so that all members could participate in the discussion and pressurise India to stop brutalities in Kashmir.
Leader of House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq stressed that awareness among the international community against Indian forces’ brutalities be created. He said that the international media should be invited to Pakistan for monitoring the human rights violation in IOK.
